On November 1, 2025, families across the United States were shaken by a loss of SNAP assistance due to the government shutdown that was on-going at the time. As the effects of this loss in funding were felt right here in Heard County, our community went to work. The Heard County Food pantry saw a significant increase in neighbors seeking assistance, up by 65% and 40% in the first two weeks of the month, respectively. But there was also an increase in financial donations and volunteerism.

Businesses and individuals made cash donations to support increased food purchases. Church groups volunteered afternoons and evenings to pack food bags and distribute during added pantry hours. Community members offered meals to strangers on social media posts, and school children donated canned goods to their schools’ food drives. It was certainly an all-hands-on-deck moment for Heard County, and the Heard County Community Partnership is proud to have been part of the efforts to stand in the gap for many of our neighbors.

HCCP is continuing to work alongside our partners and regular weekly volunteers to distribute food to individuals and families in need. Donations of any kind–monetary, food and/or time–are always welcome. We are THANKFUL for this community!
